Tree & Brush Removal

Enjoying the pond requires that you maintain access. You probably want some trees for shade. But, tall grass, weeds and brush keep people from getting to the water for fishing. They also make monitoring pests (such as muskrats) more difficult. Keep as much of the pond banks mowed as possible. Many people like to be able to walk (or drive) all the way around the pond shoreline. That may require that a pipe be installed and buried to accommodate a stream flowing into the pond. Trees should not be allowed to grow on the pond dam. Tree roots can cause the dam to leak. However, do not cut trees greater than 4 inches in diameter. Their decaying roots may cause more leaks than living roots.
